In the camp

What they do

A different subject each day, each with its own project.

Two ninjas watching a 3D printer at work

Day 1: 3D design and printing

They explore 3D modeling in Tinkercad, then design and 3D print custom creations like bubble wands and keychains, picking up design tricks and turning ideas into real-world objects.

Day 2: Game design with Scratch

They learn the fundamentals of coding in Scratch, then create games inspired by classics like Breakout, Snake and Flappy Bird, building confidence through visual, block-based coding.

Day 3: Robotics and engineering

They design, build and code robots with LEGO SPIKE Prime kits, engineering the structure and programming it to complete tasks, working toward a final robot project of their own design.

The concepts behind it

What they are actually learning

The camp is the reason they turn up. These are the ideas they use to do it, shown the way they meet them, and they are the same ideas behind any programming language they pick up later.

Loops

Repeat a set of steps without writing them out again, which is what keeps a game running.

Functions

Name a piece of behavior once, then use it wherever the game needs it.

Video detection

Let the game respond to what the camera sees, so a player's movement becomes part of how it is played.

What they leave with

By the end of camp

Taken from the camp's own curriculum, not written for this page.

  • Explored 3D modeling in Tinkercad
  • Designed and 3D printed custom creations
  • Learned the fundamentals of coding in Scratch
  • Created games inspired by classics
  • Designed, built and coded robots with LEGO SPIKE Prime
  • Worked toward a robot project of their own design

Loved our camp? Keep building all year.

Robotics is the school-year robotics program, where a ninja works through four kits across the year. The first session is free, so they can try it before you decide.

Common questions

How are the three days split up?

One subject a day: 3D design and printing on day one, game design with Scratch on day two, and robotics and engineering with LEGO SPIKE Prime on day three.

How is this different from your other camps?

Our other camps stay on one subject. STEM Explorers gives a day to each of three, so it suits a ninja who likes a bit of everything or has not picked a favorite yet.

What will they use?

Tinkercad for 3D modeling, Scratch for game design and LEGO SPIKE Prime kits for robotics. Everything is provided at the studio.
