Minecraft Advanced Modding Camp for Kids in Frisco, TX
In this camp, ninjas will learn how to create awesome mods for Minecraft Java Edition through the tool: MCreator. Ninjas will create their own custom ore, blocks, ingot, crafting recipes, weapon, enchantment, armor, potions, custom biomes, custom mobs, and even nuclear TNT!

In the camp
What they do
The projects they work through in the camp, one at a time.
A custom ore, ingot and tool chain
A new ore that generates in the world, the ingot it smelts into, and the crafting recipes that turn it into something worth mining for.
A weapon with an enchantment
Not just a reskin: properties they set and an enchantment they define.
Armor and potions
A full set, and brewing recipes with status effects of their own design.
A custom biome and mob
Somewhere new to go and something living in it, modeled in Blockbench rather than reused.
Nuclear TNT
Wired to react to redstone power, because the last day of an advanced camp should blow something up.
The concepts behind it
What they are actually learning
The camp is the reason they turn up. These are the ideas they use to do it, shown the way they meet them, and they are the same ideas behind any programming language they pick up later.
Procedures
define on block destroyedspawn custom oreplay sounduse on block destroyedName a piece of behavior once and attach it to every element that needs it, rather than rebuilding it per item. This is where modding stops being configuration and starts being programming.
Properties
hardness 3.0resistance 10.0luminance 14requires tool pickaxeEvery block and item is a set of values. Change one and the thing behaves differently in the world - which is the fastest way to learn what a property is.
Conditionals and triggers
when redstone power receivedif power level > 0igniteotherwisedo nothingAdvanced elements react rather than just exist. The TNT build is a conditional attached to a trigger.
What they leave with
By the end of camp
Taken from the camp's own curriculum, not written for this page.
- Learned how to create their own mod elements
- Learned how to create their own textures
- Learned how to create their own mod
- Learned how to code procedures in MCreator

After camp
Loved our camp? Keep building all year.
Create is our core coding program, where a ninja builds real games in JavaScript and works up through the belts. The first session is free, so they can try it before you decide.
Before you ask
Common questions
How is this different from Minecraft Modding?
Modding covers blocks, equipment and mobs. This one adds ores and the crafting chain behind them, enchantments, armor, potions and brewing, custom biomes, and modeling in Blockbench rather than drawing textures alone.
Should they do the first one before this?
It helps a lot. A ninja who has already made a mod spends this week on the harder parts instead of on MCreator itself.
Do we need Minecraft at home?
Only to play the finished mod. It needs Java Edition; everything during the week runs on our machines.
Is there typed code?
Procedures are built in MCreator's block language, which is real logic without the syntax. Blockbench modeling is closer to 3D design than to coding.
