Roblox Advanced Coding Camp for Kids in Frisco, TX

Ninjas familiar with Roblox will take their Roblox skills to the next level with Roblox Advanced Coding. Campers learn fundamentals of scripting (coding) and dig into the game-making side of Roblox to move from being a player to becoming a developer.

In the camp

What they do

The projects they work through in the camp, one at a time.

1

A part that obeys its script

Day one is the Explorer, the Workspace and properties: color, material, reflectance, transparency, anchored - all changed from code rather than from a panel.

2

The Leaning Tower of Bricks

Parts spawned by code with Instance.new, placed with a for loop, and knocked over. The first build that could not be made by hand.

3

A function they call again and again

Written once when copying and pasting the domino code gets tedious, which is exactly when a function makes sense.

4

Parameters that change the result

The same function called with different numbers, so one piece of code produces a different build every time.

5

A game they remix and break on purpose

Tweak, test, repeat. Changing a number to 200 to see what happens is the method, not a mistake.

The concepts behind it

What they are actually learning

The camp is the reason they turn up. These are the ideas they use to do it, shown the way they meet them, and they are the same ideas behind any programming language they pick up later.

Objects and properties

local part = script.Parentpart.Color = BrickColor.new("Lime green")part.Anchored = true

Everything in a Roblox scene is an object with values you can read and set. Object, property, value - in that order, every time.

Instances

local domino = Instance.new("Part")domino.Parent = workspace

Making a thing exist from code rather than dragging it in, and keeping a name for it so the rest of the script can find it.

Functions and parameters

function makeDomino(x)place a part at xendcall makeDomino(10)

A set of instructions with a name. A parameter lets the same function do a different thing each time it is called.

For loops and Vector3

for i = 1, 20, 1 domakeDomino(i * 5)endPosition = Vector3.new(x, y, z)

Count from one number to another and do something each time. Anything positioned in 3D needs all three axes, which is where Vector3 comes in.

What they leave with

By the end of camp

Taken from the camp's own curriculum, not written for this page.

  • Created at least two Roblox worlds
  • Developed multiple scripts, including a path generation script
  • Built and expanded a game and world based on the path generation project
  • Remixed a provided Colors game to make it their own
  • Gained confidence in worldbuilding, designing, and foundational Lua coding

Loved our camp? Keep building all year.

Create is our core coding program, where a ninja builds real games in JavaScript and works up through the belts. The first session is free, so they can try it before you decide.

Common questions

How advanced is advanced?

They type Lua from day one and finish the week writing functions with parameters and spawning objects in loops. It suits a ninja who has coded before, in Roblox or anywhere else.

Do they need to know Lua already?

No, but they should be comfortable with the idea of code. Everything is typed, so capitalization and spelling matter and a ninja who has only used blocks will find the first day a step up.

Is it the same as Roblox World Building?

No. World Building makes a place and adds enough code to make it behave. This is about the code itself - objects, functions, loops - using Roblox as the thing it acts on.

Can they keep building afterwards?

The projects stay in their own Roblox account, so they can keep building after the week ends.
